Downtown Halifax Waterfront with the MacInnis Family
I had such a blast photographing the MacInnis family down at the Halifax waterfront! Sometimes, when families have older kids—late teens or early 20s—it can feel a little intimidating for a family photographer who works mostly with babies and younger kids... but honestly, working with older kids is SO NICE.
These guys were full of personality, quick with a laugh, and just downright fun to be around.
The waterfront is always a great backdrop: the historic buildings, the docks, the water shimmering in the evening light... But what really made this session shine was the family themselves. They were playful, goofy, and totally in the moment, which made capturing authentic, candid moments so easy.
We wandered through the downtown streets, laughing and joking along the way, stopping wherever a light or view caught our eye. There’s something so special about photographing families at this stage in life—older kids bring a whole new energy, a mix of independence and connection that really shows in photos.
By the end of the session, my cheeks hurt from laughing so much!
If you’re thinking about a family session with older kids, don’t hesitate... these sessions can be some of the most fun and relaxed/low stress, and ones that will truly be cherished as the years go by!
